Oscillator product types

• Thru hole oscillators - leaded holder typically manually installed used for more demanding applications than surface mount crystal oscillators.

• Surface mount crystal oscillators - leadless components designed for pick and place or automatic installation.

• Dip oscillator characteristics

• Tape and reel specifications

Quartz and certain other crystalline compounds display a reciprocal relationship between mechanical deformation along one crystal axis and the appearance of an electrical potential along another axis. If a voltage with a variable frequency is applied to the crystal, the crystal will go into mechanical oscillation and will exhibit a number of resonant frequencies.

Near resonance, the crystal will exhibit terminal characteristics of an L-C network with an extremely high quality factor (Q). The crystal replaces part of the frequency-determining network in the oscillator and significantly improves the oscillator's frequency stability.

ICM crystal oscillators typically have frequency ranges from 32 KHz to 200 MHz.
