Step 4 - Base Plating

Electrodes are now attached to the blank crystals creating plated crystals. The crystal blanks are loaded into a mask, pictured top left, and placed in the electrode processing machine pictured above right. It attaches the electodes to the blank crystals. The electrical current, carried through the crystal by the electrodes, produces external pressure on the plated crystal causing it to vibrate or oscillate creating a certain frequency.

The plating process can be done by other methods as well. Three basic plating methods are: evaporation under high vacuum, sputtering with low vacuum, or a system of furnace firing silver or gold.
